Cars math Problem help?

Question

A Mazda 6s weighs 20 pounds more than a Nissan Altima. A Honda Accord EX weighs 70 pounds more than a Nissan Altima. The total weight of all three cars is 10,050 pounds. How much does each car weigh?

Nissan Altima = n

Honda Accord = h

m = 20 + n

h = 70 + n

n + 20 + 70 + n + n = 10,050

3n + 90 = 10050

3n = 9960

n = 3320

m = 20 + 3320 = 3340

h = 70 + 3320 = 3390

Nissan Altima = 3320 lbs.

Mazda = 3340 lbs.

Honda = 3390 lbs.

accord = x+70

solve for x

x + (x+20) + (x+70) = 10,050

so

3x + 90 = 10,050

so

3x = 9960

x = 3320 <----weight if nissan altima

x + 20 = 3340 <----weight of mazda 6

x + 70 = 3390 <----weight of accord

Substitute the above

N + N + 20 + N + 70 = 10,050

You divide 10,050 by 3.  Divide the difference in weight of all the cars, 90, by 3 and subtract that from the result of the first division.  From that result you get the weight of the Altima, add 20 for the Mazda, and 70 for Honda.

3390 Honda
