  1. Any car can be dangerous in an accident. It doesn't matter how big or small it is. Small cars are safer because they are less likely to roll in an accident. Large cars are safer because they have more mass. All cars have crush zones that are meant to give way in a crash. Small car do almost always look the worse after a crash, but you'll be surprised how many of the people in those crushed cars survived and walked away with out a scratch. The safest cars on the road are Subaru's. They are low to the ground and have all wheel drive. They are some of the best handling cars on the road for their class and although not as crash worthy as a Volvo, they are less likely to loose control and crash.

  2. I don't think so at all. One decent hit and that tin can can be crushed. There is nothing around to to help absorb the blow. But you would safe a lot of gas.

  3. The newest small vehicles, of course, meet today's strict safety standards and can be laden with the latest safety hardware, such as stability control and side air bags.

They are safer than ever. And differing designs mean some small cars are safer than average. But even the safest are governed by the laws of physics, which rule in favor of bigger, heavier vehicles, even in single-vehicle crashes.

  4. different cars have different safety ratings. Many smaller, newer cars imparticular are very safe. But, it is a proven fact that if two cars crash and one is half the weight of the other it is one of the most basic rules of physics that the smaller car will absorb double the energy of the larger car. So, depending on how heavy and what safety rating the vehicle you are in, dictates how safe you are. But no matter what car your in, seatbelts and airbags save lives!!

  5. not really because you got to look at if you was to get in a accident you can get stuck in a small car and more damage can be done with a small car i say a medium car is the best way to go

  6. as for my self i just dont feel safe in one. i drive a dodge 4 wheel drive quad cab, gas prices are killing me though, but i drive 2 hours to work on the interstate ,feel safer in big truck

  7. Like The Audi A3 and A4, Volkswagen Jetta, Honda civic, Subaru Impreza.

Most of the safer small cars are form Germany and Japan

But you need to know that a crash with a large SUV will still be bad for any small car. A car can be made safer, but no car is or will be safe. If you want to be safer, get something larger.

  8. Against a similarly sized vehicle, yes.  Larger vehicles will impart more energy into your vehicle in a collision.  A larger mass will push around (and through) a smaller mass  with impunity.

  9. Fixed intelligence suggests that a small car is not safe.  The goal and design of a small car is to avoid  the accident in the first place.  The features of a small car is manueverability through circumstances and stopping power.  For any driver this is your first and second line of defense thus giving the driver the best chance not to get hurt.  Obviously, the smaller the car the higher the probability of a direct hit could be fatal, however, the direct proportion of an accident being avoided is increased because of the handling qualities baked into the engineering of the lighter vehicle.

If a collision occurs, it is a random chance if you will die or become crippled, because of the circumstances that surround the accident.  Dale Earnhardt died of a fatal accident traveling at a high rate of speed.  Outside looking in, it seemed that crash was survivable, despite his protective gear and his driving skills, he could not be saved.  Racing lost one of it's best drivers.  A motorcycle is not designed to withstand a crash, however, it is nimble, fast and has overall stellar performance when it comes to handling the motorcycle to avoid collision.  While these two examples are polar opposites, the driver of a small car is within this continum.  No car big or small is bullet proof, unless that is what you buy, and even then, it has failed many world leaders.

The driving skill of an average teenage should be in a tank for his or her own safety.  The mature seasoned driver that has skills behind the wheel adds up to being the type of person I am refering to that matches what a small car can do, in collision avoidance.
