Cars under $8,000 that are good on gas

Okay so I am basically selling my SUV for another car. I am looking anything nice and is good on gas. So any ideas? I would like as large a list as possible. I prefer something Japanese, but I will take anything. I would prefer something 1999 or later. Thanks!
