Carson Jones ready to defend his USBA welterweight title against Allen Conyers – Boxing News
Carson Jones, the United States Boxing Association (USBA) welterweight champion, will defend his title for the second time against fellow countryman Allen Conyers, the former USA New York State welterweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will be held
on April 26, 2012.
The pay-per-view is being jointly promoted by Tony Holden of Holden Productions and Chris Hastings of HD Boxing and the ring for the bout will be stretched at Crowne Plaza Hotel situated in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States.
The above duo headlined the Thursday night opponent whereas the eight-round non-title bout between Haskell Rhodes and Ira Terry will co-headline the showdown. Carson has a clear upper hand over Allen and recently shared his thoughts about the upcoming bout
in a media interaction.
Jones, 25, has been in a total 45 bouts and won 33 of them. He has collected 23 of his wins by knockout and boasts a pretty hefty intimidating resume when compared with Allen.
The orthodox welterweight has also won the NABA light middleweight and WBC Continental Americas light middleweight titles and boasts win over many big names. The young Oklahoma lad grabbed his USBA title after collecting a second round technical knockout
win over Michael Clark.
Carson is recently coming from a fourth round knockout win over Ricardo Williams Junior and while sharing his thoughts during the training session commented, “I know that Conyers is standing in my way of an eliminator, so it gives me just that much more
motivation knowing that he can take it all away or 'shatter my dreams.”
His Thursday night opponent, Allen, is seriously outclassed in almost all the significant and decisive brawling facets. Conyers, well known as the ‘Dream Shatterer’, has been in a total 18 bouts and emerged victorious in just 12. He has nailed nine of his
opponents by knockout and unfortunately, has collected four losses in his last five bouts.
With such resume, Allen stands no chance in front of Jones who is currently sparring with a pugilist two division above him. While expressing his thoughts about Gennady Golovkin, the WBA middleweight champion and his sparring partner, Carson remarked, “Take
it from me, it’s the best work out there. Of course he doesn’t try to kill me, but I learn quite a bit from him. I’m glad I moved (down from middleweight) to 147, I wouldn’t have to fight that monster.”
The bout will be an easy title defence showdown for the experienced Carson especially when Allen is undergoing a strenuous gloomy loss scenario.
