Carsten Ball dumps Luka Gregorc out of Binghamton in 1st round – L, G&T Tennis Challenger 2011
Luka Gregorc of Slovenia crashed out of the 2011 Levene, Gouldin & Thompson Tennis Challenger 2011 in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to the confident looking Carsten Ball of Australia.
Despite winning his last tournament at the U.S.A F1, Gregorc displayed all the signs of rot and could not find his stride at any stage of the match, losing it in just 60 minutes of play.
Ball was the underdog of the match, who got the perfect hold of the match with his huge serving and impressive net game. He continued to fire bombs with his destructive forehands and managed to wrap up the match in straight sets.
Truth to be told, his 27-year-old opponent did not do too much wrong in the first set as he did manage to take the first set to 3-all but Ball, who was playing the match with a lot of heart and courage, happened to rush forward
before his opponent dumped a forehand long to hand the first set with a 6-3 scoreline.
The 24-year-old Ball made no mistakes to take the opener on the back of three aces, a whopping 100 percent on first serve and an equally impressive 86 percent on his second serve respectively.
The second set followed the similar pattern, with the Australian player finding an early break, and his insolence and distinction seemed to grow, as his Slovenian opponent looked resigned to defeat, who bestowed his him with a
golden chance towards the finish line when a forehand sailed long in.
Although Gregorc was once leading the second set 4-2, his opponent tore all the scripts and smashed a whopping four aces and held to level the score at 4-4.
But when it came to display some athletic and skilful prowess, it was none other than the Australian, who immediately broke back to reel off next two games and take the second set with six games to Gregorc’s four.
Emerging victorious, Ball is now one up in his head-to-head series against the Slovenian, clinching an impressive percentage of 84 percent on service, 33 percent on return and 59 percent in total.
His easing past Slovenian Gregorc in straight sets with a whopping difference of eighteen points in total has put the Australian in good stead before he enters the next round of the tournament where he is scheduled to meet Bulgarian
qualifier, Dimitar Kutrovsky in the second round of L, G&T Tennis Challenger 2011.
