Carsten Ball gets rid of Greg Ouellette in 2nd qualifying – Charlottesville Challenger 2011
Fifth seeded American Greg Ouellette lost to Australian Carsten Ball in the second qualifying round of Charlottesville Challenger 2011.
It took Ball simply sixty four minutes to get rid of Ouellette in straight sets of 6-4, 6-0 on indoor hard courts of the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia on Sunday the 30th of October 2011.
The first set of the match was a tad difficult as the players were matching a blow for a blow. Nevertheless, Ball was capable of accomplishing an ostentatious 82 percent of his first serve points won. Although, he double faulted
four times, he accomplished to smash seven aces and saved both his breakpoints.
Albeit, Ball’s first return points were not so good, he managed to elevate his total return points by achieving an average 47 percent of his second return points won.
Initiating the first set of the match was Ball and he successfully managed to hold his serve to kick open the scoreboard at 1-0. Following in his footsteps was Ouellette, who too held his serve and placed himself beside his adversary
at 1-1 on the scoreboard. The players then held their serves and the score once more tied at 2-2.
From there onwards the players matched an eye for an eye and the score progressed on even terms and in the following four games the score once more balanced at 4-4 by the end of the eighth game. During the ninth game Ball once
more held his serve and was now a game away to go one up in the match. As Ouellette served, he double faulted and endorsed a crucial breakpoint to his adversary. Ball clogged the opening set with a 6-4 victory.
The second set of the match was a one sided victory for the unseeded Australian (Ball).He managed to accomplish a hundred percent of his first service points won along with, achieving a walloping 88 percent of his first return
points won.
Commencing the second set of the match was also Ball and this time he not only held his serve but also with an early break managed to reel of straight two points to take a mini lead of 2-0 on the scoreboard. He further increased
his lead with another hold of serve and by benefitting from a breakpoint in the fourth game he led the scoreboard with a score of 4-0 by the end of the fourth game.
Ball was dominating through the set and had not only clogged all his service games but also won all his adversary’s service game to clinch a bagel set victory. Nevertheless, Ball managed to seal his victory in straight sets.
