Carters Rest favourite for the Champagne De Castelnau Novices´ Handicap Hurdle
Carters Rest is favourite for the Champagne De Castelnau Novices´ Handicap Hurdle at Ayr in England on Friday, March 9, 2012. The winner of the class-4 event will earn a cash prize of £2,534.
The track conditions are expected to be heavy in the two mile long race, which has attracted just four runners. The event will start at 3:20 GMT and the entries confirmed for it are: Carters Rest, See The Legend, Stanley Bridge and Dessie Gray.
The bookmakers have shown full confidence in Carters Rest, who has managed to win just one race over hurdles out of 12 attempts. His strike rate is not much impressive, but he has finished runner up thrice, which shows that he has the potential of challenging
others for race victory.
The nine-year-old gelding has been doing a decent job at Ayr recently. He finished runner up in his previous outing at the venue, even though he was not the favourite. This might encourage the punters to place maximum number of bets on him.
Iain Jardine’s trainee will be partnered by Henry Brooke, jockey who is looking to make a name for himself in the sport.
On the other hand, See The Legend will also be the one to watch out for, as she has the winning momentum. She won her first ever race over hurdles at Ayr in her most recent outing on Monday, February 6, this year.
The seven-year-old mare has taken part in eight hurdles in her career, which shows that her strike rate is not good. However, her recent form is what matters the most and the punters will be interested in investing some money on her.
Sandy Forster’s trained runner will be ridden by Fearghal Davis, who has managed to win 55 races over hurdles. He will be looking to use his experience in order to win today.
Stanley Bridge, trained by Barry Murtagh, has also got some momentum, after his win at Wetherby in February. Overall, he has participated in 18 hurdles, winning a couple of them. He will be partnered by Lucy Alexander.
The least expected runner to win is, Dessie Gray. He has entered three hurdles until now, but has been unimpressive in all of them. Therefore, the real competition will be between the top three runners.
