Question:

Cartilage piercing??

Ok I have heard from A LOT of people that you should pierce your cartilage with a needle or a encapsulated gun (I forget what it's called. I think that's what it's called...) But recently I tried piercing my ear with a needle on my lobe and it hurt so much. So i'm kind of guessing the pain in my cartilage would be much worse...

So tips on methods of piercing my cartilage?

  1. Yes,you definitely need to see a professional to get your cartilage pierced.I have heard and read that it can be very dangerous to pierce the cartilage yourself.I would not try that if I were you.

  2. i got cartilage piercings on both of my ears and i got them done profesionally and it did not hurt at all cause they do it so fast!

    hope this helped =]

  3. please please don't pierce your cartilage your self it's the most sensitive tissue!! and def don't do it with a gun you run at the high risk of piercing it at the wrong angle and shattering your cartilage!! which means you can be in pain up to 7 years! I got mine professionally done and it takes about 5 or 6 months to heal fully but turned out great and didn't get infected along with all my other piercings :)) please don't do it yourself you'll regret it my friend pierced her own cartilage and shattered her ear and got a dangerous staff infection.

also you need a special kind of needle and earring. plus professional pierces can put this numbing gel on your ear and it goes so much faster when they do it unlike doing it yourself I didn't even feel mine.

    hope this helps :))

    edit:

lobes your self hurt if you do it with a needle if you do it with a gun than not really but cartilage when you first get it done it doesn't hurt but the healing process can hurt quite a bit and you can sleep on the side you got it pierced on usually because it's quite sensitive but getting it done when they pierce it doesn't hurt!!

    good luck :))

  4. Id say that going to a professional piercer would be best,

I've had my cartilage pierced before, but it got infected afterwards from being sick v_v

If you dont have the proper stuff for piercing yourself (I suggest not doing it yourself) many complications could occur. A ex-friend of mine got hers even done by a professional, but they pierced her with the wrong kind of needle, didn't have the right actual piercing put in, and ended with her cartilage later collapsing. Not good. So, basically all Im saying is, go t a professional if you dont have the right stuff, and make sure you check with whom is doing it nd if they had plenty or enough experience first.

  5. I have pierced the cartilage on both my ears 2 times apiece and surprisingly it doesn't hurt as bad as the piercing on the ear lobe , but it also depends on your tolerance to pain , But if your not going to have it done professionally here is some steps you can follow to do it yourself :)

    1. Clean the needle that your gonna use to do the piercing with very good its always better to place the needle in boiling water for 3-5 min , then place it in rubbing alcohol until your ready to use it, Do the same with stud that your going to put in your ear.

    2. Clean the ear with rubbing alcohol , you can apply an ice baggie for 10-15 min to numb the ear if you have a low tolerance to pain.

    3. Then you remove the needle dry in on a clean sanitary surface mark the cartilage on the ear where you want the piercing so you don't get it crooked, then apply steady pressure until the needle is through then pull the needle out and put the stud in clean 2 -3 times an day and turn 4-5 times a day and it should heal within 1-2 weeks , Good luck!!

  6. Go to a professional piercer.

If you don't have the proper needles you can damage the cartilage, which sometimes requires surgery to fix.

You need to use sterile tools, needles and jewelry. Do you have an autoclave at home?
