  1. To start off with, get someone to spot you. Start with your leading leg (your strongest) out in front of you. Make like you're going to kick up into a handstand, but instead, put both your hands down onto the floor sideways, and kick your legs up over your head to land, non-leading leg first. Don't try to snap both your legs down at the same time, or you'll end up on the floor. Bring one leg down at a time. Remember to keep your legs straight, and aim to make an 'X' shape when your legs are above your head.

  2. Don't fear cartwheels. There's not much that can happen to you when you do them. Just keep your arms by your ears and lock them out so you can't dump yourself on your head. If you use a cartwheel mat, or mark one out with tape, that will really help you too.

You will feel more confident and perform more gracefully if you learn to do a handstand, so work on those as well. In fact, a great handstand/cartwheel drill is to kick up to a handstand against a wall, straddle your legs like in a cartwheel, then do little bounces and shift your weight back and forth from one hand to the other. That will help you feel a little more confident in doing the hand-hand part of the actual cartwheel.

You can see pictures and videos of how to do cartwheels here: http://aescougarcheer.com/Cheer101/tumbl...

    Good luck!

  3. Cartwheels are a lot easier than you might think. And they always get better with practice. Start of on a soft surface like a tumble mat or even just some nice grass, with a friend, that preferably can do cartwheels. Then just give it a go, it really is nothing to be scared of. Practice a few times, then the next day do it again. If you still cant bring yourself to do it, try watching this video, it shoes you how to learn really gradually.

  4. Well, if your scared to go down, get someone to spot you, so you feel more comfortable. Once you get used to that, you could try it by yourself.
