Carvalho: Mourinho's the best
New Real Madrid recruit Ricardo Carvalho has labelled his new coach, Jose Mourinho, as “the best coach in the world.” Carvalho will be linking up with the former Chelsea boss for the third time in his career, having played under his tutelage at Porto, Chelsea and now Real. It is clear the Portuguese compatriots have a major amount of trust and respect in each other, so a third link-up was almost inevitable.
Carvalho has undoubtedly produced his best form under Mourinho, after making his name at Porto during the Special One’s hugely successful reign, which culminated in the shock 2004 Champions League triumph. Mourinho bought his prize centre-back upon arrival at Chelsea for a whopping £20m, going on to record back-to-back Premier League titles. Carvalho’s Chelsea career has somewhat petered out lately, with Carvalho struggling with form and fitness, but his £8m move to Madrid could provide the new challenge he needs.
As for Mourinho, Real Madrid represents a chance to finish off his set, as a league title in Spain would secure the English, Italian, Spanish treble – the three highest regarded leagues in world football.
There’s no doubting the Special One’s ability to turn an exceptionally talented squad into a team that will not only challenge for domestic honours, but for European trophies as well. If he’s given enough time, he will be successful, but he will be competing against Barcelona, meaning that his Real side will have to be near perfect if they are to secure the La Liga crown this season. A nil-nil draw at Mallorca wasn’t the ideal start, but you won’t find too many people writing off Mourinho just yet. Carvalho’s opinion of his coach is most definitely shared by a great deal of the football world.
