Case has been settled?

My mom got a letter and it said that the case has been settled. It read the plaintiff provided us with general release which released all claims against you, and has withdrawn the lawsuit. The decision to settle this case for $15,000.00 was made by your insurance carrier's claims department. What does this all mean? Please and thank you.

  1. It means it is over once and for all. The injured person can not change their mind and decide to try and get more money. It means your assets are safe - the injured person can not get your house, savings etc. The matter is done and over with never ever to return.

However, you may want to follow up with the adjuster that handled your case -- they can tell you if there were any other claims pending. Most likely not -- but since I don't know anything about your case -I'm going to be cautious and refer you back to the person who is familiar with your case.

  2. It means you were at fault in an accident and the other party claimed injury.   Your insurance company valued their injury @ 15,000 dollars and paid the injured party that amount.  In return, that party signed a piece of paper that stated they would not sue you personally for anymore money for their injury.

  3. It means that they have settled outside of court, and there is no need for any further action. Due to the fact that Plaintiff, (person suing) release all claims, saying they are no longer holding you responsible, and the Insurance company made a deal with them to pay that person off, and close any and all legal matters. Basically if they were going to sue you for a car crash, they now have been paid by the insurance company and now neither you or the company has to do anything else with this person.

  4. That is good news it means they are accepting your insured amount and not going for extra against you in a civil case.

It means once they cash the Insurance check they can't sue you over this.

Call your insurance company and or attorney to verify this.
