Case sensitive: What does this mean EXACTLY?

What exactly does case senstive mean when referring to email addresses and passwords?

It means that if you're password is lets say cheeseplease and you type in CHEESEPLEASE it will say your password is invalid because it is "sensitive" to different "cases". (capital letters)

It means that if, when you registered, you entered your address as [e-mail] and your password was PaSsWoRd, that's how you need to type it every time you log in.

Typing them as 'joeblow' and 'password' will not allow you access.

Normaly it means the difference between capital letters and lower case letters. and if some thing is case sencitive it means that if there are capitals in some thing you have to reproduce it exactly as it is.

For example: Your password is PASSword, so if you type in password, it won't work and neither will PASSWORD.
