I like the move. We needed a big bat and we got it.Maybe add another pitcher(Maddux?) and we can seriously compete for the NL West title.

  1. Whatup Mug,

Great move by the Dodgers- especially considering how big of a hole that 3rd base spot- has been for years, and years now.

One more arm like a Maddux would be nice- but we are poised to take the West.

I like what one commentator said the other day- it doesn't matter what your record is going into the playoffs- if you have a few frontline starters you can take a series.

He was referring to the Diamondbacks (who we can over-take with some consistent play)-- and then who knows what can happen once you reach the playoffs.

    Go Dodger Blue!

    Nickster

  2. i dont know why the indians would do that...he was ust heating up and he one of the best bats on the team this year....bad move...

  3. i didnt know that! thats a good bat for the dodgers!

  4. I thought he was still an Indian. If he is a Dodger that a bad move by Cleveland because he was one of their player since Sabathia was passed on to the Brewers. That isn't a good move.

  5. Casey Blake is a very good ball player(ask us Tiger fans-who always saw him steal a win from us with a big homer-good deal for us).You got a tremendous addition.Your Dodgers will really like him alot!

  6. take good care of Casey for us (I live in Cleveland), he's a heck of a ballplayer.

He can play any corner position, and he plays them well, he's actually a very very good 3rd baseman. he's good in right field too, and has a strong arm. smart baserunner too, not incredibly fast, but a good athlete. you can hit him anywhere but 1st or 4th in the lineup too, and he's willing to do anything for the team. true professional. you guys picked a winner in getting him.

just promise not to resign him in the offseason, i wanna see him back here in '09.

  7. While I am not too familiar with Casey Blake, I looked up his stats and he looks like he might be the help this struggling offense needs. I think this will end up being a good move by Colletti. He knows how to make mid-season trades, but as we all know his mind seems to be somewhere else when he does FA signings, lol. I am also happy they didn't have to gave up any of our big name prospects, so its an all around good deal.

And I am not to sure about Maddux, he has gone something like 15 games without a decision and we had him once already.

Edit: He also plays first base, now the Dodgers can give Loney as rest once and a while. So far he has played every game and they didn't have a back up first basemen

  8. The Dodgers making this move is important because they needed his type of bat and utility skill......they should get maddux because it wont cost much and maddux only wants to play for them practically!

  9. Sweet now you guys can crush my Giants some more because our front office doesn't know how to run a team.

  10. Great move for the Dodgers.  Not a bad move for the Sox either since Casey Blake usually had pretty good success against them and now they won't have to face him!  I know that is a little selfish but, I really am happy for the Dodgers..lol..

  11. Well I wouldn't call Blake a big bat but his 11 homers are tied w/ our team leader and his 58 rbi's would lead Loney (the team leader) by 1, so obviously Blake becomes one of the most productive bats in our lineup. He's incredibly versatile and can play 1b, 3b, and OF, he also has a strong arm and is solid defensively. What's great for the dodgers in financial views, is that the Indians are paying Blake's 08 salary.

Now for the prospects we gave up: Well I think Blake is def. a 2-month rental guy who is supposed to help the Dodgers make a run into the playoffs, since DeWitt and LaRoche-big prospects, are still there and the LAD organization has clearly not given up on them or they'd probably be somewhere else by now. So i don't think Blake will resign next year w/ LAD and the prospects were actually quite a hefty price for 2 months. I mean Meloan's been struggling as a starter but he was dominant last year as a reliever and could be a future closer. Also Carlos Santana might be behind Russel Martin but he's looking like a good prospect and i'm convinced the Dodgers could have gotten more value out of him.

That said, I think the Dodgers def. improved over the short term, but the future...? Now all we need to do is keep Nomar healthy since there are no other decent options at SS, get SOMETHING (like maybe a handful of homers and .200 BA??is that too much too ask), and have Penny and Schmidt get healthy.

Yeah I'm a Dodgers fan but I honetsly think the Dodgers can make a big run in the playoffs like the Cards did in '06. The offense might be inconsistent and mediocre, but in a short series, frontline starting pitching is very importnat and Dodgers have best NL ERA.

  12. It's a very good move for the Dodgers. Blake is a good hitter with runners on base, and a much better bat than Andy LaRoche or Blake DeWitt.
