Casey Dellacqua bows out to Su-Wei Hsieh in round two – Malaysian Open 2012
Aussie tennis star, Casey Dellacqua, was stunned by the Taiwanese tennis professional, Su-Wei Hsieh, in the second round clash of the BMW Malaysian Open tournament. She defeated her in straight sets 6-1, 7-5 and registered another
upset of the tournament taking around 67 minutes to perform that miracle.
The match kicked off in emphatic fashion for the Taiwanese player, who broke her opponent’s serve in the opening game and pushed her further back with a lead of 2-0. She was enjoying her sublime run of form and inched one step
further with another thumping breakthrough to take a lead of 3-0. Soon after this heroic start she further enhanced the score line to 4-0; she had already struck an ace and forced her opponent to commit a couple of double-faults.
A dramatic start didn’t end there, as Hsieh broke serve for the third time in a row and took an unassailable lead of 5-0. She was broken back in the sixth game but she pounced back on her rival in the seventh game and earned the
final breakpoint of the set.
It was such a cracking start for the Taiwanese starlet but her serve was broken in the second set. Dellacqua couldn’t hold the lead for long as her serve was broken in the fourth game that tied the scores at 2-2. Both players capitalized
on their serves to push the scores further to 5-5.
Hsieh was clever to change gears and slow the tempo of the game to frustrate her opponent and win a deciding breakthrough to register a crushing defeat against the superior ranked qualifier. She won 65 points out of 117 played
in the match and registered an impressive 63 per cent first serve conversion rate.
Hsieh progresses to round three of the contest. Former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, won a gruelling encounter on Tuesday to begin her hunt for her first title this year. On her triumph against the 18-years-old Caroline Garcia,
she stated, “I didn't know what to expect when I was drawn to play her. I had to push myself, as the weather conditions were humid. But I managed to stay tough and mentally strong in the last set when I was down and had almost lost the match.” She is one of
the strongest contenders for the title.
