Casey Dellacqua breezes past Misaki Doi in the qualifiers – BNP Paribas Open 2012
In a match between two left-handed starlets, qualifier’s 20th seeded Casey Dellacqua stomped over Misaki Doi from Japan in straight sets at the BNP Paribas Open 2012 on Tuesday. She clobbered a 6-3, 6-3 victory over the 20-year-old to enter the main draw of this hard court tournament which is part of the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) tour of 2012.
The Australian seed outshined Doi in every department of tennis to advance into the first round at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California, United States. She lost her serve once but broke the world number 127 serve four times to bag the match in 79 minutes.
The Japanese youngster made a strong start on the Indian Wells’ hard courts and stunned the fourth seed, Anna Tatishvili, in straight sets to set-up this duel. She kept her momentum in the opening of this match and drew the first blood to lead 2-0. However, she lost her track after that and regardless of spilling fewer errors, Doi squandered four break opportunities.
On the other side of net, the Aussie re-gathered her strength and snatched her break back in the very next game. After Doi held her serve in the fifth game, Dellacqua found her rhythm and went on a four-game tear, ultimately sealing the opener with a 6-3 win.
The Aussie high spiritedly entered the following set and slid her entire serves after brushing off all three breakpoints she faced. Dellacqua got the breakthrough in the eighth game after cashing in the lone break chance and pocketed the set with a 6-3 score line.
Overall, the 27-year-old coughed four double faults but covered it up by manipulating a better first serve share of 64 per cent as opposed to the Japanese’s 51 per cent. She also capitalised on four out of six break opportunities and clicked 30 out of 42 points on her first serve share.
Dellacqua occupied this spot after crushing the British challenger, Laura Robson, with a breadstick.
She has now entered the main draw of the $4.5 million WTA event where the Russian star, Elena Vesnina, awaits her. Dellacqua is looking forward to keep her form in the opening round in order to advance further in this tournament.
