Casey Dellacqua crushes Bojana Jovanovski in the round one – Malaysian Open 2012
World number 107, Casey Dellacqua, hammered the 111th ranked Serb, Bojana Jovanovski, to begin her BMW Malaysian Open campaign in Kuala Lumpur. She took just around five minutes over an hour to squash her opponent in
straight sets 6-0, 6-2.
It was the fourth face-off between the contenders. The initial two battles were won by the Serb; during the Wimbledon opening round in 2010 and Brisbane International 2012. The Aussie starlet opened her account in the Australian
Open, earlier this year and now levelled the head-to-head scores at 2-2.
The opening set was a bagel, depicting the level of domination by the Aussie. She is in the hunt to break into the Top-100 players and further enhance her ranking; probably look to break into the Top-64 players before June 21,
2012 to make a direct entry into London Olympics, later this year.
With three successive breakpoints and comfortable serve holds at the other end, Dellacqua sealed the first set triumph comprehensively. She forced her opponent to commit several unforced errors by exerting immense pressure; five
double-faults from the Serb are the example of that.
The second set started in a competitive fashion. Both players held their opening serves and swapped breakpoints to push the scores at 2-2. The Aussie starlet held her serve in the following game and broke her rival’s serve for
the second time in the set to take a lead of 4-2.
It was critical for the Serb to break back immediately but she failed to do so. No pressure was exerted on the Aussie player who easily sneaked past her opponent with a lead of 5-2. Jovanovski had to hold her serve to stay in the
match but she could only win one point and gifted the game to her opponent.
Dellacqua won 63 points in total and register an emphatic 62 per cent total points winning rate. She smashed a couple of aces and bagged 67 per cent points on her first serve that were complemented with a 56 per cent turnover on
her second serves as well.
Another match that will be played later in the day features the likes of eighth seed Briton, Anne Keothavong and the Taiwanese qualifier, Su-Wei Hsieh. The winner will take on Casey Dellacqua in the second round.
