Casey Dellacqua outlasts Noppawan Lertcheewakarn in round one – Dunlop World Challenge 2012
Top seed, Casey Dellacqua from Australia, battled past the Thai challenger, Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, in a three-set mouth-watering battle at the Dunlop World Challenge 2012 on Wednesday. She summed up a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory against the world number 207
to secure a place in the round of 16 at this ITF Women’s Circuit event taking place in Aichi, Japan.
The former Top 40, Dellacqua re-ignited her spark at this indoor carpet tournament. She swayed from the right direction in the second set. However, the Aussie quickly picked up his pace and registered this success with a breadstick. After ruling in this
one hour and 37-minute marathon, Dellacqua comfortably progressed into the second round.
Dellacqua high-spiritedly entered the Sky Hall Toyota. She lost her serve once but broke the Thai’s serve twice, eventually sealing the opener by winning six games to three. The Aussie dusted away five out of six breakpoints she came across and converted
two out of five break chances to her advantage.
The 21-year-old rebounded in the proceeding set. She smoothly plucked her entire serves with poise and got the breakthrough in the last game, eventually pulling out the equaliser with a 6-4 score line. Lertcheewakarn dusted away both breakpoints she faced
and cashed one out of five break chances to get back in contention.
Ranked 88th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Dellacqua went berserk in the deciding set. After Lertcheewakarn held her serve in the opening game, the Aussie blasted powerful forehands to go on a six-game killing spree.
She was never challenged with any hindrance and capitalised on all three break chances to steal the limelight.
Up next for Dellacqua is the conqueror of the match between fifth seeded Tamarine Tanasugarn and the American contestant, Nicole Gibbs.
The second seed, Misaki Doi, will join Dellacqua in the following round. She devastated her compatriot, Mari Tanaka, with a bagel to progress at this tournament. The higher ranked local star held her entire serves with conviction and cashed four out of seven
break chances to formulate a 6-3, 6-0 success. She produced a better first serve share and superbly marked 25 out of 33 points on it.
