Casey Dellacqua prevails over Yi-Fan Xu in the round two – Toyota Challenger 2012 CH
Top seed, Casey Dellacqua, rallied through the second round of the 2012 Dunlop World Challenge tennis tournament held at the carpet courts of Toyota, Japan on the eve of Thursday. She penned down her straight sets win 6-2, 6-4
against her Chinese opponent, Yi-Fan Xu.
The left-hander Aussie displayed a strong game plan since the start of the match and skilfully concluded it in approximately one hour and five minutes. In the year 2011, Dellacqua took advantage of her home ground and defeated
her rival in straight set, 6-4, 6-2, at the quarter-finals of the Esperance Challenger.
The 24-year-old Xu began the match at a very sloppy note and was unable to sustain the pressure of her rival. She was unable to protect her initial serve and the higher ranked Aussie nudged forward to bag away the first four games
without any hindrance. Her powerful entry left a long lasting impact on her rival, as she progressed with poise without facing any break chance. Eventually, she stole the opener with a 6-2 score line.
In the second set, the two contenders gave each other a tough time. Ranked 261st in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Xu struggled hard to avenge her former loss. The Aussie professional commenced
an average start of the set as the score line squared down twice until the middle of the set. As the Chinese junior picked up pace gradually and squared the score line to 4-all in the eighth game. The 27-year-old Aussie took a flying start towards the end
and cashed on her challenger’s serve in the very next game. In the end, she terminated the set with a 6-4 win.
The right-hander Chinese participant had an average initial serve accuracy of 63 percent, converting 14 of 24 first and seven of 14 second delivery points. She capitalized on one of serve break points and her challenger pocketed
away two of seven points. The Chinese was unable to attain her required break through as she double faulted twice. Dellacqua thundered forward with 72 percent first serve with 14 of 18 first and four of seven second serve points in response.
