World number 80, Casey Dellacqua, gusted away the 19-year-old Chinese player, Zhen Yan, in the first qualifying round of the GRC Bank Guangzhou International Women's Open on Saturday. She registered thumping straight sets score
line of 6-1, 6-1 taking just 39 minutes of the total play time.
The opening set witnessed a traditional start to the match; both players registered a simple serve holds to push the scores at 1-1. However, the Aussie star didn’t waste time in ousting her opponent and marching with a lead of
a breakpoint. She scuttled past her opponent smashing three winners down the line in succession to bag the first breakthrough of the match.
It went as predicted. Dellacqua bagged the second serve game to love and won four of the six games points in the following game to pocket the second breakpoint of the match. She led the scores 4-1 at that stage and her opponent
was clearly not finding any sort of rhythm that would have helped her slow down the rate of success of her rival.
The Aussie top seed lost just one point on her serve and won four of the contested five rallies in the seventh game of the match to sneak another breakpoint and more importantly finish off the first set proceedings in quick succession.
Yan just won a single point in the first game of the second set; failed to hold and went down to a trail of 0-2. It looked like the 27-year-old Aussie will run away with the show but a sucker punch in the third game of the second
set earned the 19-year-old kid, a breakpoint that lowered the trail to just 1-2.
However, the tables were turned upon her in the following game when she failed to registered a serve hold for the fifth straight occurrence in the match. She trailed 3-1 and couldn’t win a single point on her opponent’s serve in
the following game. Dellacqua lost just one point in the following two games to win the battle and book a date with Zarina Diyas for the second qualifying round playoff.
