Casey Dellacqua withdraws from Hopman Cup 2013 – Tennis News
World number 101, Casey Dellacqua, has pulled out of the Homan Cup which was scheduled to be played at Perth from December 29 to January 5. It was major disappointing news for the home fans who wanted to see the local star in action
after struggling for the bulk of the season in 2012. She has withdrawn from the contest due to a foot injury that troubled her at the HP Japan Open in Osaka as well.
The 27-year-old Dellacqua lost a race against time to get fit for the Hopman Cup. In a statement that confirmed her withdrawal from the event at Perth stated, “Although it’s getting better every day, it's not going to be ready
in time for Perth and I can’t rush my return to competition. I really hope I can try and play in Hobart if I'm ready and if I get a wildcard. I always love playing at Hopman Cup. The people of Perth always get behind me and it’s a great feeling to have so
much support. I was also really looking forward to being part of history and playing at the new Perth Arena. Hopefully I have the chance to come back next year.”
Dellacqua inflicted a peroneal brevis tear at Osaka and that proved to be her major reason for the downfall in that contest as well. However, she took part in Tokyo WTA event after that incident and made it to the quarter-finals.
It seems like the old pain has reignited at the last moment, just before the start of the new season which will hurt the Aussie professional a lot.
The replacement for Dellacqua is yet to be announced by the Australian Tennis Federation. She was scheduled to team up with the 20-year-old Bernard Tomic to represent the host nation. However, the troubled Tomic will have to practice
with another player which will be announced shortly for the next edition of the Hopman Cup. The possible new candidate can be Olivia Rogowska (ranked 115), Yvonne Meusburger (ranked 132) and Anastasia Rodionova (ranked 139). It will be interesting to see who
receives the call for the duty at Perth.
