Casey Martin set for his second PGA event
Casey Martin is the men’s golf coach for the University of Oregon, U.S. The player now is looking for a comeback. He was given an opportunity and he availed it. Now he has made the headlines and is the center of all golf gossip.
Martin has played once before on the PGA Tour. His first PGA Tournament was the U.S. Open, which took place in the year 2005.
The venue for that event was the San Francisco's Olympic Club. Back then, the player was not much experienced and was not able to make the half way cut.
After missing the cut, the golf coach disappeared from the world of golf and now he is back. On this Wednesday, Martin was given another opportunity.
He got a sponsor’s exemption and will now be featuring in the PGA Tour's Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open as well. The tournament tees off on the 4th of October and after four-days of magnificent golf, it will end on the 7th
of October.
After the U.S Open of 2005, the American is going to make his first appearance in a PGA Tour event.
“We are proud to award a sponsor exemption to Casey Martin, a man who has displayed fierce courage and perseverance on and off the course in his career,” said Raoul Frevel, Chairman of the Shriners Hospitals for Children golf committee.
“At Shriners Hospitals for Children, we are committed to providing the chance to achieve your dreams, and granting an exemption for a man of Casey’s character embodies this mission”.
In an interview, Casey Martin talked about the tournament and seemed very happy with how the things were going.
He said, “The opportunity to compete in the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is an incredible honor. With the exceptional care provided by the hospitals for families regardless of their ability to pay, I am excited to be involved and
support a great cause”.
In the last five years, Martin led the Oregon University team to four NCAA Championship appearances. He has another opportunity to prove himself and leave his mark in the golf history.
