Casey Stoner dominates warm-up at Le Mans - MotoGP News
Australian Repsol Honda rider, Casey Stoner has performed well in the warm-up session at Le Mans. He has continuously dominated the race weekend beginning from the free practice sessions to the last 20 minutes warm-up session, before the Monster Energy Grand
Prix de France at the legendry Le Mans circuit.
Stoner topped the time sheets throughout the session, but the session also saw a severe accident of Yamaha Factory Racing rider, Jorge Lorenzo. Italian rider, Marco Simoncelli was again set on the second place, followed by Nicky Hayden of Ducati Team.
The Aussie gave his best lap time of 1: 34.221 seconds, which was 1.1 seconds slower than his pole position lap time in the qualifiers. Stoner has scored his first ever pole seat at the French Le Mans circuit in any Grand Prix class.
Unfortunately, the warm-up session triggered a controversy when the race directors announced that there will be a proper investigation about the incident between Casey Stoner (Repsol Honda) and Randy de Puniet (Pramac Racing). Stoner was seen expressing
his annoyance in physical manner against the French GP rider, when he unexpectedly became an obstruction in front of the Australian on the front straight, during one of his fast laps.
Reigning world champion, Jorge Lorenzo had a rough start to his race day, when he faced a violent high side during his out lap and headed in to the gravel. He lost his rear-end while entering a right hand bend which caused his fall. The Spanish rider came
out without any injury, but his M1 was damaged and got on fire, being a bad news for his team. Despite the incident, Lorenzo made his return to the track on his spare M1 to secure the 11th place on the final time sheet.
Estoril winner, Dani Pedrosa was fourth in the time chart leaving the second Ducati Team rider, Valentino Rossi in fifth place. Third team-mate of Repsol family, Andrea Dovizioso who completes the front row on the start grid, was sixth fastest. He has been
able to start from the front row only for the fourth time in premier class, as his first was in the last season at Malaysian Grand Prix.
