Casey Stoner earns 100th win for Repsol Honda at Motorland Aragon Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider Casey Stoner collected the 100th win for his Repsol Honda team at the Motorland Aragon Grand Prix on Sunday, September 18, 2011.
It was yet another success of Stoner starting from the pole seat during the 2011 MotoGP season.
Adding on to the celebration, Stoner’s teammate Dani Pedrosa scored the second seat on the podium. The Repsol Honda team enjoyed double podium seats at its 100th win. Unfortunately, their third teammate Andrea Dovizioso crashed
out of the race in the first lap.
Stoner said, “Before the race everyone was a little cautious with the wind picking up after the morning warm up and conditions being a lot different to those we have seen all weekend. This was on our minds, also warming the hard tyres to make sure everything
was good for the beginning of the race.”
The Aussie dropped to third place at the start of the race. While avoiding contact with teammate Dani Pedrosa, he was overtaken by Ben Spies just before the first corner.
Following the shuffle into the first bend, he was riding at the third place but shortly closed in on to Dani in the second place. He was doing well aboard his RCV and aimed to lead the race with a clear gap.
The bike had performed well throughout the weekend so he was confident to push hard. Meanwhile, he was also being closely chased by championship rival Jorge Lorenzo.
However, he hopped up to the first spot and took a big lead from his teammate Pedrosa. After the overtake, Dani was able to stay close to Stoner but could not manage it for long.
Pedrosa said, “We already saw in practice that Casey was very fast here and it was also like this in the race. I was losing some tenths in the first sector and I was unable to reduce the gap in the other parts of the lap.”
Andrea Dovizioso was displeased with his first ‘did not finish’ status of the 2011 season. He claimed that he was fast to score a podium finish but could not do so as he crashed out in the second corner of first lap.
