Casey Stoner edges out Marco Simoncelli for pole seat - MotoGP
The Australian rider of Repsol Honda, Casey Stoner, held the pole position on May 14, for Monster Energy Grand Prix de France, leaving behind Marco Simoncelli with a gap of just 0.059 seconds. Andrea Dovizioso will complete the front row standing in third
place.
Casey Stoner was performing out others with his sheer talent and super fast set RC212V. He started his Le Mans race weekend by dominating the free practice sessions from the first to the last. The Aussie is facing challenges within the house of RCV riders,
as the top four seats of the grid are held by Honda riders. The Australian’s best lap time was 1:33.153 seconds, which was fraction of a second faster than San Carlo Honda rider, Marco Simoncelli.
The Repsol Honda rider has scored his 25th premier class pole position, especially on this track where he has never celebrated a single victory.
The San Carlo Honda Gresini rider, Marco Simoncelli was able to beat Stone’s team-mates with his aggressive laps, falling apart the Repsol riders, Casey Stoner (first) and Andrea Dovizioso (third). The Italian will be starting the race from the middle of
the first row, accompanied with compatriot Andrea Dovizioso in third place at the starting grid, being his first start from the first row in the 2011 season.
The third team-mate of Repsol Honda and the winner of Portuguese Grand Prix, Dani Pedrosa will be leading the second row standing at the fourth place on the grid. The Spaniard was left behind by his teammate Dovizioso in last lap of qualifying to secure
the third place and leaving Pedrosa for the fourth position. For the Spanish, the French Grand Prix will be the first event for not starting from the first row.
Looking at the defending world champion, the Yamaha Factory Racing rider, Jorge Lorenzo will be placed at fifth position on the grid for the first time in the running season, sharing the status with his fellow countryman; it will be his first race of the
2011 campaign not starting from the first row.
The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 duo Cal Crutchlow and Colin Edwards will be together at sixth and seventh place for the start. Ben Spies of Yamaha Factory Racing will be following in eighth place for the race start.
