Casey Stoner of Repsol Honda speaks at Laguna Seca pre-event presser – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda team’s Casey Stoner was present at the pre-event press meeting held at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit of Monterey, California.
The tenth MotoGP tenth event, the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, July 24, 2011.
The Australian rider shared his views about the last event at Sachsenring and his last minute position loss in the race.
Stoner said, “I thought I would have pulled out a few more points last weekend but Jorge nicked them back off me in the last corner (at Sachsenring), so hopefully this weekend we can take the Championship advantage back out again.”
While commenting on his performance during last few weekends, the Aussie rider said that he availed the opportunities in the best way he could. He said the tyre choice was giving him a tough time to stay competitive in the last couple of rounds.
His initial pace in the race was outstanding but quick wear out of the rubber dropped him to the last seat on podium at Mugello and Sachsenring.
However, the pole seat for Stoner was a good start and improvement in his race settings. He was capable of winning the German Grand Prix but some late issues hampered his run.
Stoner further stated, “Coming to this GP is unique, it’s quite different to the others. I love the atmosphere here and it’s just got something about it, the way the track flows. It’s tricky, it’s got some great points and some very difficult ones, it’s
a little bit slippery and very undulating but in general I’ve always had success and been fast.”
Stoner likes to race at the Californian circuit, as it is tricky but an interesting layout. He also praised the environment at the circuit.
He feels that the US race weekend will be a tough event, but the hopes are high and Stoner is looking forward to hit the track for the practice sessions.
