Casey Stoner of Repsol Honda wins United States GP on ideal tyre strategy – MotoGP news
Casey Stoner ended the United States Grand Prix held at Laguna Seca as winner after securing the pole position for the race on Saturday on a tyre strategy that worked best for him.
He had decided to use soft compound tyres for the race and his decision gave him the desired results.
Stoner said that the weekend which passed was difficult because they were trying to make the hard tyres work on the circuit. He added that using soft compound tyres for the race was a difficult decision but he took it with plans of being more careful during
the race.
“It's been a difficult weekend for us in general especially trying to make the hard tyre work. So for the race I decided to go with the soft option and be a little more careful with the tyre, keep a little more traction and not spin so much,” Stoner said.
Furthermore, he said that he tried to get to the leading position in the race but he was unable to get it because Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo were going very well and it was not possible to cross them.
Moreover, he said that he decided to preserve the tyres for the end of the race therefore he slowed slightly.
The Australian rider said that he was confident that he has preserved the tyres for the end of the race and if he increases speed, he will surely be able to get to the first place. This is exactly what he did after getting the lead.
The rider said that he was thankful to his team for their effort which made it possible for him to win the race.
He said, “I decided to slow the lap times a little and try to save the tyres until the end and then we could start to come back. I was confident for the entire race that I had enough pace for the win.”
It was a difficult decision by the Australian because Pedrosa and Lorenzo had opted for the hard compound tyres for the race. However, the decision was fruitful as it enabled him to win for Honda. He has a history of being a confident rider at Laguna Seca
and the success was because he had increased confidence over the bike.
