Casey Stoner terms 2012 Spanish Grand Prix his greatest race ever – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda Team rider Casey Stoner has declared the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix as his greatest race ever, after claiming his MotoGP career’s first ever victory at Jerez circuit.
Even though, the Australian driver struggled during the qualifying practice and could only secure fifth position in the grid for the race. However, he showed an amazing performance at the Spanish GP and claimed the victory after beating Jorge Lorenzo of
Yamaha Factory Racing who secured the pole position on Saturday.
After winning the race, the defending champion expressed that it was the greatest race of his career.
“That is the greatest race I've ever done,” Stoner said.
He also said that he took an unfortunate start while he said that the conditions were quite challenging, however, he said that his bike’s pace was incredible. He added that he felt worried after taking the lead because he noticed that his arm was not functioning
properly as he had an arm injury in the past. Nevertheless, he stated that he overcame his feeling after seeing that there were only two more laps to go.
“I had a poor start and the conditions were dodgy at first but the bike was working fantastic. However, having taken the lead I felt my arm start to pump and I thought, oh no! Thankfully when I saw the two laps to go marker more blood seemed to flow through
my arm and I felt a lot better and strong enough to hold on,” said Stoner.
Furthermore, he said that he is very much pleased with the performance of the team after struggling in the QP and they are satisfied with the results.
Moreover, he said that they have been making the best of the efforts so as to make the necessary developments and the significant preparations for the races ahead in order to fight for the championship title.
“Just the fact that we turned it around again overnight. Yesterday wasn't looking good for us and we were definitely struggling a bit with the setup,” he said.
Besides, he said that they are confidently looking forward to perform well in the upcoming season.
