Casey Stoner tops 1000cc test at Brno with 2012 Repsol Honda RC213V prototype – MotoGP news
Repsol Honda rider duo Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa took part in the official MotoGP test at Brno. The Aussie rider dominated the time chart with 1000cc Honda RC213V prototype. Meanwhile Dani Pedrosa was sixth with a gap of a second from leader, Stoner.
Stoner said, “Today was another good shakedown, but we still have some work to do. We found a few positive things and confirmed certain directions to take and move forward. We had a few small problems with chatter.”
The Aussie added claimed that it is not a big issue to resolve with the help of engine braking and engine’s electronic management system.
Stoner believes that the chattering issue can be easily solved along the development of chassis. He also added that riding a 1000cc bike with more horsepower is more fun. He said it has superb acceleration but the new compound tyres lacked grip while the
standard tyres were much better and also solved the chattering seamlessly.
The data collected from the test run will be a help to start the development work. In the next test session, the team will resume from this point.
Pedrosa said, “I'm very happy to have tested the 1000cc because rain was expected, but it didn't arrive until the end of the day. My first impression in the morning was that the feelings were quite similar to those I had when I first came into MotoGP, you
can feel the difference in torque and power.”
The Spaniard was a little shy with the 2012 Honda RC213V. Pedrosa shared his views that maybe he was riding with respect to an 800cc machine. Pedrosa added that he needs more time to understand the new prototype.
Both Repsol Honda riders said that the bike is working well even in its initial form. Pedrosa aims to make further changes in the new bike. While comparing the 990cc and the 1000cc, Pedrosa said that both give almost the same feel on the power, however,
the 2012 bike is much light and easy to handle.
