Casey Wittenberg wins the 2012 Web.com Tour Player of the Year award
The Web.com Tour stars might have been going places on the Tour these days, but American Casey Wittenberg has his reasons to boast about his unmatched golfing skills and stature.
With Wittenberg having won the 2012 Web.com Tour Player of the Year award, the Web.com Tour has no doubt seen the best of him in the 2012 golf season.
When Wittenberg was starting the 2012 season, his mind had been besieged by mixed emotions, as he never tasted success on a big tour. The American star stayed focused and did not let the nerves overcome him throughout the season.
Having notched up two Web.com titles in the 2012 season, along with one second and third-place finish each, Wittenberg has done better than all the other players on the Tour.
His victories came at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open and the Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open. In addition to that, he finished second at the Neediest Kids Championship and shared the third position at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational.
Moreover, he also participated in the US Open, the second major golf championship of the year, and finished tied for the 10th position, which speaks of his tremendous form during the season.
Overall, the American prodigy recorded eight top-10 finishes, which helped him in earning a total of $433,453 as prize money, in the season. As a result, he finished the season as the Web.com Tour's leading money winner.
Talking to the reporters after receiving the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, he said that he enjoyed the season on the Web.com Tour, because of the tough competition he faced during his campaign.
According to him, winning the money list title, followed by the Web.com Tour Player of the Year award, will boost his morale for the upcoming season, when he will pile his trade on the US PGA Tour.
"I am humbled to be voted Player of the Year by my fellow players," said Wittenberg. "I have greatly enjoyed the Web.com Tour. Everything about the Tour is first-rate and the competition is outstanding. It has clearly made me a better player. I head to the
PGA TOUR in 2013 with confidence and can't wait to get started in January”.
The victory in the money list earned him full-time playing card for the 2013 PGA Tour season, along with an entry into THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
Tim Finchem, the PGA Tour Commissioner, congratulated him for winning the Web.com Tour Player of the Year award, and said that Wittenberg deserved the award, after performing consistently throughout the season.
“On behalf of the PGA TOUR family, I would like to congratulate Casey on an outstanding year on the Web.com Tour,” said Finchem. “He excelled throughout the season and is a deserving honouree”.
