Cash Rules to show he can win outside of Calder in Harlan’s Holiday at Gulfstream Park
The 16 December, 2012, renewal of the $100,000 Harlan’s Holiday has reeled in a competitive field of nine, 3-year-old and above colts and geldings to run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles over Gulfstream Park’s dirt track, and the likes of Csaba, Delegation,
Duke of Mischief, and Cash Rules are going to set the track ablaze.
Harlan’s Holiday might not be a graded stakes event, but the race this time around will attract crowd aplenty to see these runners in action against each other.
The one to look out for in the Harlan’s Holiday is the David Fawkes trained 5-year-old gelding, Cash Rules, who is exiting a four race win streak at Calder Race Course, out of seven consecutive races at the venue.
Owned by Larry Fugate, Cash Rules, will be joined by stable mate, Duke of Mischief. The Joann and Alex Lieblong and partners' 6-year-old Duke of Mischief is also trained by David Fawkes and hasn’t won a race since 16 April, 2011, the Grade 3 Charles Town
Classic.
Jockey Javier Castellano has only ridden Cash Rules only once, that too in an allowance optional claimer over six and one-half furlongs at Gulfstream Park, where the duo ended fifth to Soaring Socks.
Javier Castellano and Cash Rules are going to be reunited in the Harlan’s Holiday, as jockey Luis Saez makes way for his much experienced counterpart.
Luis Saez has ridden Cash Rules for 8 consecutive starts, and the pair has never finished worse than third in any of those starts, and together they have won 5 races, with two seconds, and a lone third place finish.
The gelding by Peace Rules showed promise early in his career, winning 3 of his 5 starts as a sophomore, but incurred an injury which kept him away for 15 months.
"He took much longer to come back than we expected," Fawkes said. "We always thought he had the ability, and now he's showing it and improving with each start."
Cash Rules will break from post number 7 as the co-highweight of 123 pounds with S. Parbhoo trained, Ducduc, who will break from gate 5.
