Question:

Cashing in Joint Tax Refund?

My mom and dad just got their tax refund in both of their names, but mom is in a little bit of debt trouble. Is there a way for them to get their money without it going through their joint account? If my dad opens his own account, can my mom just sign the check over to him and have him deposit it? By the way, I don't know if this helps, but their accounts are through Bank of America.

  1. Yes, it could go into an account with just your dad's name on it.  Or they could just cash it.

  2. As long as she signed it it can go into the other checking account .. The irs just wants proof that the check was given to the right people.
