Real Madrid goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iker-Casillas-c16815, has attended the AS Sports Prices ceremony and was recognized as one of the best athletes of 2012.
Casillas who won a record-breaking Primera Division title with Real Madrid last season took the Price from his team-mate and club star, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-c9622 Ronaldo, who won the award last season.
Los Blancos captain has admitted that personally it was a great year for him at the Bernabeu and in the national team.
“It has been a very good year, both with my club and with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 team.”
The Spaniard was a bit philosophical about the award he received. Of course he appreciates the honour that is bestowed on him and said that it is something that he will reflect on and cherish for the rest of his life.
“It is very special to enjoy these moments, to be happy and to be able to look back on them in the rest of your life."
Moreover, the Real custodian remarked on his relationship with the club star, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629, and stated that whatever that is good for him is also good for the capital-based club.
“The good things that happen to Cristiano are also good things for Real Madrid."
The 31-year-old then turned his attention to the fans that voted for him online. He appreciated their support and encouragement and also congratulated and thanked everyone who were involved with the ceremony.
“You have done things well. I hope this marks an important point in my career. The important thing is to keep on improving. I want to congratulate all the prize winners as well as the finalists."
Finally, Casillas was asked about who he thinks will win the prestigious award, the Ballon d’Or. He declined to take names and said that one of the players in the short-list will win it.
“The players who should be there are there, and that is the important thing."
Casillas is hoping that Real Madrid will be able to retain their La Liga title. They haven’t had a fine start in the season.
Currently they are 11 points adrift of their arch-rivals, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, who are yet to lose a single game in the Primera Division.
