Real Madrid goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iker-Casillas-c16815, came to the defence of his coach, Jose Mourinho, after their shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Real Betis on Sunday night.
The hopes of retaining the Spanish La Liga title have been dealt with a huge blow after Real Madrid suffered another loss in the league.
It was a match that was full of controversy after the referee refused to a give a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Karim-Benzema-c20350 goal that seemed legitimate.
Regardless, the Real Madrid boss was not happy with a lot of things. Firstly, Mourinho felt that his team lost due to the schedule congestion his team faced. After the club’s involvement in the Champions League last Wednesday, Real again played on
Saturday night and that is something the Portuguese coach thinks is not fair to his side.
Mourinho also felt Benzema’s goal in the dying minutes of the match should have stood.
“But it’s obvious that a player who plays on Wednesday shouldn’t play today,” he explained.
Moreover, Casillas came to the support of his boss and contributed his coach’s outburst to the questionable plays that took place during the match.
The shot-stopper admitted that Mourinho has a temper and he has to feel protected by his players.
“Mourinho has a temper and sometimes has to feel more protected by us. There were some questionable plays late on in the game.”
The Spanish international has also given his thoughts on the outcome of the match and what it means to their hopes of retaining their Primera Division title this season.
The veteran goalkeeper also contributed many factors to their loss, stating that fatigue and the fact that Betis were highly determined after their 5-1 trashing by Sevilla last week were the reasons why their opponents played phenomenally.
“We have taken two steps back regarding the League title. It’s due to a bit of everything, from fatigue to the fact Betis were thrashed by Sevilla last week. Besides the referee has not been successful at all times.”
Finally, Casillas has urged his teammates to get over their loss and move on. He believes that now is the time for Los Blancos to be united.
“We must stand up now and be more united than ever.”
Real’s chances of retaining their title are very slim now as their arch-rivals, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, extended their lead to 11 points after their 4-0 victory over Levante last night.
