Question:

Casino Game Rules and Etiquette?

by  |  earlier

Are there any sites which teach the rules of the different casino games, gestures that players make, and in general the etiquette which players use? (Most notably Blackjack, Texas Hold 'Em, and Craps)

I just don't want to enter a casino and people look at me in a negative way for not knowing the proper rules and etiquette for each game.

  1. Go to the site for the casino you plan to visit. Rules vary from place to place. And don't worry about being embarrassed, because the rules differ, you can not be expected to know them all, just ask!

  2. For blackjack, tapping the table means hit and waving the hand horizontally means pass. Usually they need you to do this over the felt, so that the security camera can catch the movement.

Poker, you should really ask the dealer as this is different from casino to casino. Some are tight on the string bets and what not.

Im not a regular craps player but you should be aware that the craps table is probably the most superstitious place in the casino. People will do funny dances/prayers and what not before rolling. Just keep an open mind and try not to break anyones superstitions. Generally, try to bet with the table if you want to remain popular.

Finally, other players will be more irritated if you slow their game down more than if you know the right hand gestures. So make sure you know the basic rules of the game so you don't grind the game down too much.

    Good luck

  3. There are rules and ettiquette in casinos for players, but i worked in a casino for over 8 years, and most of the players today are all just cool young people having a bit of fun after a night out.  Best things to know are don't push other players, and if you need to know anything about the game, the dealers and inspectors will be happy to explain how the game works, but the cardinal tip of ettiquette in a casino is always tip the $2.50 from your blackjack payouts, and on other games maybe a $2 for every 40 you win in one round.

Dealers are much happier to help the tippers than the non tippers

  4. This site has pretty much everything you're looking for:

BTW, don't play poker if you aren't already a proficient player. You'll get fleeced pretty quickly.

As far as tipping goes, $1 or $2 an hour assuming you're winning is plenty unless you're a green chip ($25) player. If you walk away a winner, give the dealer about 1-2x your average bet. If you walk away a loser, keep what you have left for the next table.
