There are so many casinos now, that everyone is blowing their money on them. I understand that gas prices and dairy prices are going up, but people who spend all their money at casinos shouldn't complain right?because they spent all their money at a stupid casino. I think they shouldn't exist, well, only in Vegas.

what's your opinion

  1. I have to disagree with you.  Some likes to go shopping, some goes to the movies, bars, drinks, expensive restaurant.  Well, I like to gamble.  So, I'd like to have more casinos near to where I live.

Me going to the casinos IS NOT the reason the gas prices went higher.  So, I don't see anything wrong with me complaining about it.

Let's say, I usually spent $100.00 each time I go to the casino.  I spent about $15.00 on gasoline a week.

Now, I have to spend $25+ on gasoline.  I still spend about $100 on casino.

It's not like I spend extra on casino and complain that I cant afford gas.  I still spend the same but the gas price is the one making me cut back my fun(less visit per year).

So, why cant I complain about gas prices?

Casinos are not stupid by the way.  They make billions a year.

It's the people's choice to gamble everything they've got.

  2. I deal cards in a casino for a living and I also enjoy to gamble myself.  I've had times after losing money on a sports game or at a poker game that I leave feeling pretty down but I understand that it would be wrong to shift the responsibility to some other factor than my own decisions.

There is a gentlemanly code to gambling ( sorry about the sexist connotation but I mean it to apply to both genders ) where you are expected to take your wins and losses with some dignity.  Those that cross the line to gambling over their heads should seek help, but the fault lies with them.  The casino's only responsibility should be (and is where I live) to identify such problem gamblers and give them all access to materials, counselling and other measures such as self exclusion to turn their lives around.

  3. Gambling is a choice and some people choose to gamble even when they have no business doing it financially.  Casinos know this and they love people who shouldn't gamble, but do.

  4. you can make lot of money in online casinos...very fast.and a recent study done in Yale university shows that 65 year old gamblers are more health than their non-gambling counterparts.it helps your thinkin and the fun is GBOA!!!

a factory worker and first timer made one of the biggest jackpots $8million...is that not enough to stick to gambling

    http://kacash.livejournal.com for some casino juices

  5. Just because you don't see the "fun" in gambling does not mean they should not exist.

When my s.o. and I go to Vegas, we don't go with our rent money. We save up for a few months ahead of our planned trip and then when we're in Vegas, we don't feel bad about not winning. It's more than just gambling, though.

It's the thought that you might win some extra money. But, there are also great shows to see in Vegas. Even better than the shows, there are some wonderful restaurants.

Not everyone who gambles is an Addict, btw. We do it for fun. Sometimes only once a year due to our hectic schedules.

The sad thing is when people lose and then take it out on the dealer. Who, btw, did not FORCE the people to gamble away their money.

  6. Who are you to tell everybody else how to spend their free time and money? I suppose you think I should take my 70 years old mother to a quilting bee? She would tell you she has worked so hard for so many years that she cant sew any more and dammit she wants to gamble. It makes her happier than I have ever seen her to win 275$ on one quarter. She wins often and she enjoys her self.I wish there were more casinos so I didnt have to drive 90 miles to take her to one once every 2 months.

  7. give people what they want.  the people want gambling.

  8. I think that your opinion is wrong, here's why:

I don't really accept that there are so many casinos in America.  In fact compared to other countries, the gambling rules are very draconian.  They still have all kinds of stupid restrictions, such as requiring them to be on boats or in certain places.  Many people in America live hours from the nearest casino, but you talk as if there is one in every town or city, which is a long way from the truth.  I live in Tennessee, and the nearest real casino is about six hours away.

I also can't accept that 'everyone' is blowing their money on them.  The percentage of the population that actually goes to casinos on a regular basis is tiny.  There are far more people who buy lottery tickets on a regular basis.  In fact it was recently in the news that the tough economy has caused a spike in sales because people are becoming desperate and hope they can get lucky just that one time and solve their problems with a lottery win.  Unlike casinos, the lottery is in 48 states.

As for your notion that people who visit casinos shouldn't complain about the price of gas, that's a pretty unfair generalization.  It's rather like saying that people who regularly buy expensive hair cuts shouldn't whine about the price of gas.  Or anyone with an SUV shouldn't whine about the price of gas.  Or anyone who has a bigger home than they need etc.

We all have a right to whine about the gas price.  Fact is we are in this mess because George Bush is the worst president in recent history.  He has plunged this country into horrific levels of debt, by getting us into an war in Iraq for no reason, and simultaneously cutting tax to the rich.

As for you thinking that casinos are stupid and shouldn't exist, I have to ask why not?  Who are you to decide where people are allowed to spend their money?  That would be like me saying dance classes shouldn't exist because I can't dance.  Or motorcycle shops should be closed down, because bikes are so dangerous.

America is supposed to be a free country, so if people wish to go to a casino, that is their prerogative.  These adults have earned their money by working hard.  They have paid their taxes.  And if they choose to spend their money gambling, that's up to them.

And not everyone loses gambling you know.  Last time I was in Vegas, some guy won $12,000,000 playing a slot machine at the Wynn hotel.  Many professional poker players have career earnings of several million dollars.  More than most people earn in a life time.

The fact is casinos only exist because people want to go there.  If they were not making money, they would close.

I don't think that the government should interfere with legitimate businesses giving citizens what they want.

Finally, I'd ask you to consider the advantages of casinos.  Some of them are vast.  There are some in Vegas with over 5,000 hotel rooms!  Attached to many casinos are restaurants, shops, malls, and other attractions.  There are hundreds of thousands of Americans who work in these casinos and owe their livelihood to these businesses.  If all casinos except the ones in Vegas closed, hundreds of thousands of Americans would be unemployed.  The effect on our already weak economy would be devastating.  Millions more people would be affected.  Can you imagine Atlantic City if all the casinos were closed down?  Not only would all the casino staff be out of work, but consider all the support industries and other companies that rely on the tourism that the casinos bring each year.  Consider the local economy and how it would be wrecked.  House prices would plummet, unemployment would skyrocket, and generally when a local economy collapses crime goes up sharply.

Just one last thing.  Consider too that casinos are not just about gambling.  Some of the finest restaurants, bars, night clubs, and shows, are put on by casinos.  I assume you've never seen the spectacle of Vegas.  It's pretty amazing.  You could stay there for two weeks and see and do the most amazing things without ever gambling a penny (if you chose not to).

Casinos provide a lot more entertainment than just gambling.  And they also provide hundreds of thousands of Americans with jobs.

In a free country like ours, such businesses should be allowed to exist.  And those people who don't like them, should simply not visit.  Although if you are going to condemn them as you have, I would suggest you visit a couple of really nice ones before you pass judgment.  You might be surprised how much fun they can be.

  9. Gambling addiction is just that .. an addiction. Gambling is everywhere. There are many interesting articles on just this. Lately Oklahoma opened up casino gambling. People filing bankruptcy followed right behind. Nevada keeps this fact covered up.. They have the highest suicide rate per capita in the nation. Put heroin on the front porch of a heroin addicts house and see what happens. Put a big 'ol chocolate cake in the kitchen of a compulsive eater and see what happens. I live here in Oregon, gambling is everywhere. I'm with you.. there should be a little more control on access to these places.

  10. i work at a casino, and personally feel terrible when people lose big at my table. but the fact is, that they got the income somehow, and they decided to GAMBLE their money. so it is entirely their fault, not ours.

and just btw, i came up with that by myself, no-one at my casino has "brainwashed" me or anything
