Caspar Netscher – A force to be reckoned with in the future
There are quite a few young horses, who are capable of making a name for themselves in mega events and one of them is, Caspar Netscher, who has made a lot of fans since debuting in the sport last year.
The three-year-old colt first appeared onto the scene in May 2011 and caught the attention of everyone straight away, by winning his very first race at Beverley. He was priced 100 to 30 by the bookies in the class-5 event, but he proved to be the strongest
of all and triumphed by a decent margin.
This performance was good enough to earn the young runner a place in the class-2 youngsters Conditions Stakes. He was given the best odds for victory back then, but had to be at his absolute best in order to take the top spot for the second consecutive time.
However, Misty Conquest pulled off a surprise in that race and upset Caspar Netscher. The latter had a good run overall, but dropped his speed towards the end, which allowed him to settle for the runner up place in the end.
Although the Alan McCabe’s trained colt started off his career with a victory, he had to wait for five more races in order to add another one to his tally. He was then sent to the prestigious Group-2, Gimcrack Stakes, event which is held every year at York
in August.
There were some extremely good runners lined up for action in the major event and Caspar Netscher was given a general starting price of 5 to 1, which was not bad at all. However, his start was not impressive, as he was held up at the start, which can cost
dearly in a 6 furlong event.
Despite not being able to start well, the young runner gave a spirited performance and took the top spot by a decent margin. This victory helped his owner, Charles Wentworth, win a cash prize of £82,880.
The Gimcrack Stakes are nearing yet again this year and it will be a great opportunity for Dutch Art’s son to win the Group-2 event for the second consecutive year. He has the potential to defend his title and his team will definitely have a lot of confidence
in him. His fans at York will also be expecting him to entertain them once again.
There is no question that Caspar Netscher will be a force to reckon with in the coming years. He won another Group-2 race last year and showed that he could win with consistency. However, his season did not end on a positive note, as he struggled to make
an impression in the final couple of outings.
This year has turned out to be a good one for the promising runner, as he has managed to win a couple of events out of four attempts. He looks in a good position to taste success on a few more times before the season comes to an end.
Overall, Caspar Netscher has participated in 14 races in his career and managed to win five of them. His winning percentage is not bad at all. Above that, he has finished as runner up on a couple of occasions whereas secured the third place on the same number
of times, which goes onto show what he is capable of achieving in his career.
However, there is a long way to go and Alan McCabe will have to work extremely hard with his trainee in order to help him succeed against the best in the business.
