Caspar Netscher presented trainer Alan McCabe with his first Group 2 win in the Gimcrack Stakes
The 2-year-old Dutch Art colt, Caspar Netscher, handed trainer Alan McCabe his first group race win. With jockey Robert Winston, the pair convincingly won the Group 2 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes for colts and geldings on 19 August, 2011,
at York.
The well deserved win for Caspar Netscher in the prestigious 6 furlong's event at York gave his trainer enough to think about the Breeders’ Cup, to be held in U.S. at Churchill Downs this fall.
It could be a possible target for Caspar Netscher, who is the son of Dutch Art, out of Bella Cantata by Singspiel.
The juvenile colt recorded his first win after breaking his maiden earlier this year on 10 May, 2011.
In a field of 9 runners at Beverly racecourse, Caspar Netscher, under jockey Robert Winston, ran in the 5 furlong event with the group labeled as good to firm.
The juvenile colt dwelt in the beginning of the race, and took him sometime to break free because the course was not clear which made Winston switch the runner on to the left side with 2 furlongs to go.
Caspar Netscher chased leaders till the final furlong and edged out a lead just inside the final furlong, and from then on in, the colt kept the lead like his life depended on it as he drew clear and went on to win the maiden stakes by defeating Last Bid
by 2 ¼ lengths.
Since then, Caspar Netscher has finished four times with a purse out of five starts, finishing twice, second and third with a lone fourth position to go with it.
The win at York in the Gimcrack Stakes, showed that the colt has a bright future, as the 5 to 1 shot was wayward in the beginning of the race, but soon kept it together and made headway 2 furlongs out on the far side.
This time around to avoid traffic Robert Winston switched the colt on the right side which opened up clear space to edge out in the lead.
The pair grabbed on to the opportunity and went on to win the race comfortably by 2 ¼ lengths over Lilbourne Lad.
