Cassandra Kirkland eyes title at Hero Women’s Indian Open
Cassandra Kirkland of France knows that only thing that will help her continue a winning form at the upcoming Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012 is holding her nerve.
Kirkland only rose to fame after she won the recently held Sanya Ladies Open in China, but the Hero Women’s Indian Open, scheduled for this week at New Delhi, India, will test her patience.
Observers have also said that Kirkland has got a perfect opportunity to shine once again and prove her mettle among big names like Laura Davies of England and the defending champion Caroline
Hedwall.
The French star may not be as strong as Hedwall or Davies, but her latest victory in China has made her believe that as long as she sticks to her work ethic and does not lose nerve, she can
stay at the top of the leaderboard.
Kirkland has not only done well in some of the recent tournaments, but the Hero Women’s Indian Open has also seen her display a superb performance.
In the 2010 edition of the tournament, which Davies won, Kirkland performed well enough to finish fifth on the leaderboard.
Speaking to the media about what she has planned to do in the upcoming battle, the young gun said that she is not worried even though the field is featuring far stronger players than her.
She said that with confidence running at an all-time high, she has come to learn some surefire skills, improving her short game. Kirkland pointed out that she enjoys playing in Indian conditions
and the course will also help her display a natural game.
“Already I had quite a bit of confidence going back because I like the course and I always play well there. Coming from a win I think I’ll have a lot of confidence and hopefully I can do something
good in India,” said the French golfer who is playing her sixth LET (Ladies European Tour) season this year.
Her performance at Sanya Ladies Open shows a glimpse of how the fast-learning professional has improved her game lately. She carded a 70 in the last round to rack up the title.
Speaking at the end of the tournament, Kirkland had said that she was not ready for such a big surprise, but her nerves remained strong till the end of the event.
