The AC Milan striker reflects on the much publicised issue of homosexuals in footballs, and stated that it was their personal matter and not his business.
The former Real Madrid striker held a press conference after the match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Cassano-c6302 stated that he knew such an issue would be asked and Prandelli had forewarned
him.
He further mentioned that it was their decision to tread on that path and had nothing to do with him. He was quoted to have said:
“Are there any g*y players? Cesare Prandelli told me you’d ask that question. It’s their problem. If they are g*y (though he used a far more offensive Italian term, ndr), then that’s their problem.”
There have been numerous incidents in football where the topic of homosexuals has caused controversy within the media and the players. He was later asked whether he felt there were people of such orientation in the Italian squad, and even though Cassano
was hopeful that this was not the case, but either way he stressed that it was their matter and did not concern him.
He further went on to state:
“If I say what I really think, then there’s going to be chaos. Are there any g**s in the locker room? I hope not. In any case, it’s their problem and nothing to do with me.”
Prandelli wrote a foreword in a book which amongst many topics talked the issue of homosexuality in football. The Italian head coach was of the opinion that they should come out of the closet.
However, views differ from each person, as President of the Players’ Association, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Damiano-Tommasi-c9800 was of the view that they should not openly reveal their sexual orientation till the end of playing careers. It will keep their lives private without too much
intrusion because of that fact.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Di-Natale-c6306, Udinese hit man, feels that the time is not right for homosexuals to openly come out and state their orientation. Popular consensus would concede that even though everyone has the right to making their own choices, the world of football
is not ready for any such revelations at this moment in time.
