Cassius Clay to Muhammad Ali (Part 10)
It was 1982 and it was quite clear that Muhammad was suffering with health problems. The exact problem was not figured out initially, but people had seen and noticed an evident change in him.
In 1984, the greatest boxer of all time started having increased health problems and very soon he was diagnosed with the painful Parkinson’s disease. It is a disease that impairs and directly affects the central nervous system of a human being.
It mainly causes damage to the movements and speech of the affected person. Ali could barely move his hands himself and his face became quite expressionless. It was a sad and painful moment for the entire sporting world when they heard that the great legend
Muhammad Ali was suffering from such a devastating disease.
Muhammad Ali’s life was been defined by his accomplishments within the boxing ring and in terms of his illustrious and historical career as a professional heavyweight boxer. However, Ali’s personality was not limited to a squared ring.
There was a lot more to his life and the mission he had in life. He had a heart of gold; a heart filled with warmth and appreciation for all those who respected and appreciated him. He may have been violent in the ring but he had and always will have a peace
loving mind and heart.
When he refused to enlist in the U.S Army, it was a clear indication of his anti-war and anti-violence belief. He refused to join the army even though it cost him his title and professional boxing license. Moreover, Ali has done quite a lot of travelling
in the past as well, helping those in need and the under privileged.
After his boxing career ended, he flew across nations, attempting to make a difference on a large scale. He actually went through the effort of personally going to various places to help children in need. Ali visited Indonesia to give food and medicinal
supplies to local health care centres that did not have sufficient means to fulfil everyone’s needs. The King Ali was all about personal and individual efforts.
Muhammad the gracious also had ties with numerous orphan houses where he would provide daily life necessities to make the lives of orphans more comfortable. These are just a few examples of how he made a difference around the globe. Even with his own suffering,
Ali would seek to reduce the problems of others. This was a side of the all time great that many had yet to see.
Muhammad wanted to motivate others, by helping the world or at least doing what he was capable of. His aim was to get a rise out all those people who were in a position to make a positive difference, but just did not realize it. Muhammad wanted the world’s
leaders to understand the responsibilities they had. There was a time and place for everything.
Just as when Ali was younger, the time and place for him demanded his excellence in the boxing world. As he grew older, the mighty Muhammad knew that it was time for him to spread excellence and respect around nations and across borders. Just as he bewildered
his opponents in the ring, he wanted the people to compete with him in spreading greatness, love and respect.
Muhammad “The Greatest “Ali has accomplished a great deal in his life. Not many people have been given the honour that he received. The world still holds a very high regard for the magnificent human being.
Apart from his sporting and athletic accomplishments, the iconic figure has received a number of honourable and prestigious awards; all recognizing his boxing accomplishments along with appreciating his saint like humanitarian efforts. He received many international
awards as well.
