Castello Masters, will Garcia steal the throne?
Castello Masters will be coming in the town of Valencia at Club de Campo del Mediterraneo on 21st of October. The event carrying a purse of $2000, 000 will kick off with the star studded field on the par -71 course.
Sergio Garcia will be one of the players teeing off tomorrow and chances are that the Spaniard will be standing on the winner’s podium, by the end of the Sunday.
Despite the fact that he has been absent from competitive golf since missing the cut in the PGA Championship, Garcia is the betting favourite for the current event. He seems to be missing the spark, which was once found in the winner of the 2008 Players'
Championship.
However, there are many factors in the upcoming tournament that will go in favour of the Spaniard. First of all his in depth knowledge of the course comes from his father.
Sergio Garcia’s father plays in the same club as a professional, he has a clear idea of how to tackle the course. Secondly, the 30-year-old grew in the town situated in the outskirts of Valencia, which indicates that the player will be getting lot of love
showered on him. That will be a boost for the morale of the player and hence cast confidence in him.
Moreover, the player has a victory recorded on the same venue in 2008 Players' Championship. Garcia won the title with such ease that he described his experiences out of the World. He was found quoting the tour as, “one of the most beautiful and emotional
victories of my life".
However, last year, the player kept on strolling behind, owing to an infection, which he experienced in his stomach. Sergio Garcia managed to chase the leader, but lost the battle with a margin of one stroke.
Apart from the defeat, Garcia has never recorded a round of above 69 in any of the eight cuts, which he made to this place. Moreover, his putting stats demonstrate commendable numbers on this course. This might be because of his long affiliation with the
greens and the putting area.
Garcia has been suffering with his form since the starting of the season. For instance, he finished in the top-25s in the US and British Opens, where he once held a record of standing in the top 10 winners of the tournaments. Then, he lost the Greenbrier
Classic, but followed a top 22nd finish at the Firestone Country Club. In the preceding week, he missed the cut in the USPGA Championship, after shooting a 79 in the first round. Not to forget the Dubai Championship, which he lost owing to his terrible
third round.
One cannot neglect Garcia’s talent despite all odds. He stood on the tenth position in the Race to Dubai, when he had missed nine events before that. If he could strike balance a year back, then chances are that he will manage to do it again.
The 30-year-old missed the chance to play in the Ryder Cup this year, but he was chosen by the captain, Colin Montgomerie, to represent his side as a vice-captain. Garcia did a good job and played a great role in his team’s victory. Predictions are that
a victory at Celtic Manor would have surely set a spark in the player’s morale to bid for the next biannual event.
To make it into the next Ryder Cup, Sergio Garcia has to bring the same World number two of 2008 back to action.
Ryder team vice-captain will be teeing off tomorrow at Club de Campo del Mediterraneo in Valencia, Spain. Speculations are that he will win the event and purse of two million, but what if he does not? After all, he has been away from competitive golf for
two months.
