Castle Test Series: India vs South Africa, 3rd Test, day 4
Jacque Kallis stole the show on day four of the third Test between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, with one of the finest hundreds one could expect to see at the highest level of the game. India did well to clean up the home side’s
top order but Kallis put on a master-class hundred to set India a target of 340, as South Africa were all out for 341 on the final ball of the day.
The three-match Castle Test Series is level at 1-1 after two games, and the final match will decide the winner of the series. The final day of the Test will start with India embarking on their chase of 340 runs to win the
game.
Day four started with South Africa at 52/2 and leading India by 50 runs. Alviro Petersen and Hashim Amla started cautiously but Petersen was sent back early when he became the third LBW victim for Harbhajan Singh in the innings.
Amla became the fourth wicket for the off-spinner as the ball rolled onto the stumps following a sweep attempt by the right-hander. Amla scored just two runs, and South Africa were 64/4.
Kallis was standing at one end and following up on his hundred from the first innings. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 came in after Amla’s exit and tried to put on a partnership alongside Kallis. The two added 34 runs to the board before
de Villiers was cleaned up by Zaheer Khan for 13 runs.
Ashwell Prince and Kallis got together with the score at 98/5. The Indian team had started to smell its first Test series win in South Africa; the top-ranked Test team in the world was closer to conquering its final frontier.
Kallis and Prince put on 32 runs for the sixth wicket and took the score to 130 when Prince was sent packing by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ishant-Sharma-c64566 for just 22 runs.
Kallis finally found a partner to depend on, in Mark Boucher. The wicketkeeper-batsman provided able support and added useful runs. The two added 103 runs for the seventh wicket and took South Africa out of
troubled waters. The partnership was broken with the score at 233 when Boucher was out LBW for 55 runs.
The next man in was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn. The fast bowler showed willingness to use the long handle and got some quick runs alongside Kallis. Kallis on the other end completed his magnificent century and took the lead past 300. After
Steyn was dismissed for 32 runs, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Morne-Morkel-c77722 came in and added 46 runs with Kallis. Morkel also went for his shots and put together 28 runs including four boundaries.
The Indian bowling attack seemed to have lost its edge. Despite their best efforts, the bowlers were not able to get past Kallis. Morkel was dismissed when he was caught by S. Sreesanth off the bowling of Harbhajan Singh
– his sixth wicket for the innings.
Next came Lonwabo Tsotsobe, who smashed two boundaries in the final over and was dismissed on the final ball of the day. Kallis remained unbeaten on the other end at 109, including eight fours. South Africa were dismissed
for 342.
