Castleford Tigers win against Crusaders RL, denying them third victory of Engage Super League
Castleford Tigers bagged 26-20 victory over Crusaders RL in the Engage Super League on Saturday, July 16 at the Racecourse in Wrexham.
Tigers were playing without their key player Rangi Chase and emerged successfully from the game with the last-minute try by Rob Parker followed by a penalty kick from Kirk Dixon, which concluded in a leap over Leeds in the Super Rugby Tables. This is the
eighteenth loss for the Crusaders in their Engage Super League campaign.
Crusaders were in a dominant position with a 14-6 score line at half-time which unfortunately did not continue during the second-half of the game. After the break, the game favoured the Tigers who clinched victory by completing the sets of six that widened
the gap for the hosts.
Jordan Thompson of Tigers claimed their first try after the initial 18 minutes in the game followed by a conversion kick from Dixon.
This was rebutted quickly in a try from Jason Chan of Crusaders. The hosts were strongly treading into the game and were again in front of the Tiger’s touch line when Lloyd White took the pass then onwards and went over the score line.
Tries by Crusaders during the first-half of the game were made by Chan, White and Jordan Tansey, which was winding up in favour of them until then.
After the break, Nick Youngquest scored an early try for Tigers, who were lagging behind during their first half to climb their way into the game. Ryan Hudson’s pass was intercepted by Jarrod Sammut, who sprinted to the line which was then followed by Schifcofske's
conversion kick.
Later a try by the Crusader’s wing, Stuart Reardon was also turned down.
Hosts were hoping for their third victory of the Engage Super League, when a late try from Parker turned the table. While discussing their fall against the Tigers, Iestyn Harris, Crusaders’ coach mentioned that no one but the team itself is to be blamed
for the loss.
Commenting on the horrible performance from the host team, which kept creating opportunities for the visitors, Haris added, “I lost count of the amount of errors we did in the second half but we just kept giving them a reason to stay with us it the game.
It is extremely disappointing because I was expecting us to kick away in that second half. We just kept giving them opportunities.”
