Castleford assistant coach Andy Hay set to leave club - Rugby League News
Andy Hay, the assistant coach of Castleford Tigers, has confirmed his departure from the franchise today, September 14, ending his five-year stint with the club.
Castleford is going to miss out on their two coaches after this season, as Terry Matterson, the head coach of Tigers, is also going to see his way out of the franchise.
Leigh's Ian Millward will reign in as the next head coach of Tigers and the entire squad is looking forward to play under his leadership. Rangi Chase, who is the jewel of Tigers lineup, when asked about coach’s switch, seemed keen on working under him. According
to the player every coach has a coaching style of his own, which will offer plenty of opportunities for the players to learn.
While speaking to the Yorkshire evening post, Hay added that Terry's departure is going to bring in a change for the club. He thanked Matterson for granting him with opportunities at the club. He further added, " We have had some really good times. We've
had some tough times as well, but I think we have taken the club to a pretty good standard on limited resources and not a lot of things to work with at times. We've got in the play-offs once and been knocking on the door twice. We got to the semi-final of
the Challenge Cup and that was a big highlight, but losing to Leeds the way we did was pretty devastating and I think it had a big impact on rest of our season."
Hay thanked his head coach, for granting him with ample chances to prove himself. He revealed that he had applied for the head coach’s job at Castleford but Millard will fill in as the future head coach to succeed Matterson.
Hay also added that he wants to learn further from some more people, which will help him step up to the next level. Hay would not have realised it ever if he had not put himself up for the head coach’s position.
