Castrol Honda rider Alexander Lowes collects double DNF at WSBK Silverstone round – WSBK news
Castrol Honda team rider Alexander Lowes ended both World Superbike Championship Silverstone round races with a ‘did not finish’ status and left his team disappointed with his outing.
Earlier in the season, Castrol Honda’s prime rider, Ruben Xaus was injured and was replaced by Karl Muggeridge. Later, he was also sidelined due to a mountain bike accident. The only option was to call another rider and it was British Superbike Series regular
Alexander Lowes.
Lowes said, “I can't really begin to express my disappointment, not just for myself, but for the whole team. After the test last week, I came to Silverstone with high hopes for an improvement over Brno, which was the first time I had seen the bike.”
The DNF was not likely to happen but the team was not able to find a suitable race setup for the Silverstone circuit. His lack of confidence at the front end of CBR1000RR made him to crash in the first race and wrecked the primary bike. In the second race,
he was fighting to cope up with a poor setup of the secondary CBR1000RR which forced him to run wide at the corner and then return to pits.
Castrol Honda Team Manager, Ronald ten Kate said, “Not the results we wanted from the weekend, of course, but we still look forward. We have a test at Assen before the end of August, with quite some new parts to try on the bike that should allow us to go
faster again. I'd like to thank Alex and Fabrizio for their efforts this weekend.”
Fabrizio Lai was called in at the very last moment to race at Silverstone in place for Jonathan Rea and proved his worth. It was his first run at the venue aboard a very unfamiliar bike but he managed a good run.
The team manager was pleased to work with Lowes and Lai. Although the weekend did not go well, the Castrol Honda team is looking forward to race in the next round with addition of some new components to their bikes.
