Castrol Honda rider Jonathan Rea wins race one of Imola World Superbike event – WSBK news
Castrol Honda rider Jonathan Rea developed a staggering lead from the fifth lap of race one and managed to win the first event of the Imola WSBK round.
Coming to the second race at the Imola circuit in Italy, Rea started again with a strong pace but a battery connector failure ruined his efforts. Rea had to retire from the race just before the last lap to the finish line.
Rea said, “Race one was pretty emotional, because it’s been a long journey back. Last season ended for me here, so it’s a credit to all the people around me – my family, my friends, my girlfriend, and of course the team – who have got me back to the top
step.”
Rea added that he used the 2010 disappointment to charge himself for a stunning performance. On the positive side, the upgraded CBR1000RR was running with ‘ride by wire electronics’ which improved his pace a lot. His expectations for race two were very high
but could not achieve his goal. This left Rea with a little disappointment.
Rea added, “I know the guys behind me were pushing pretty hard but I felt quite comfortable at the front. We’ve come a long way and I’m not going to get wrapped up in the negative of race two. What happened was a failure of a one-Euro battery connector so
in my heart I know we had two really good races today.”
The biggest advantage was to further develop the new electronics during the race run. Rea was extremely thankful to his crew and their effort for the event as well as the setup development.
The British rider is looking further to develop other aspects as well. Including the electronics, the bike has a margin to improve in other ways that will provide extended confidence to the rider for the upcoming event at Magny-Cours, France.
Currently, the British WSBK Honda rider is at 11th place in the season points’ chart. Though he cannot hit the title but he is aiming to improve his standings in the points’ table.
