Castrol Honda’s Karl Muggeridge out of WSBK Silverstone event due to wrist strain – WSBK news
Castrol Honda’s substitute Karl Muggeridge has been ruled out of the 2011 World Superbike Championship Silverstone event due to a wrist strain.
Muggeridge was riding in place for Ruben Xaus. Muggeridge strained his wrist during a dirt bike crash recently. The Australian rider has now been ruled out of the ninth WSBK event taking place at Silverstone on July 31, 2011.
The incident occurred during a vacation trip with his family in Italy. Ronald ten Kate was extremely sorry for the incident that restricted Aussie’s comeback to WSBK. Now the team boss has called in Fabrizio Lai to represent Castrol Honda at Great Britain
along Jonathan Rea.
Castrol Honda Team Manager, Ronald ten Kate said, “We're all very sorry for Karl, as we were really looking forward to working with him again this weekend. However, we understand that he needs to be fit for the next IDM round to fight again for the title.
So, we have a replacement for Ruben's replacement, and we will make Fabrizio welcome and work hard with him to get the best result possible at Silverstone.”
Muggeridge is a former champion of the World Supersport Championship. His inclusion was made after Ruben Xaus crashed during the Brno event. Xaus was severely injured and is currently recovering from the incident. Castrol Honda’s call would allow the Australian
rider to reappear in the WSBK series for the first time since 2009.
The Australian rider from the IDM Series was not severely injured but he had surely damaged his wrist. Muggeridge is now resting and will recover in time for the next IDM event.
The decision was collectively taken by him and his German HPR Honda team to fulfil his first priority. His healing is important as he has to race at the next weekend for the German Superbike series.
Meanwhile, with Muggeridge’s withdrawal there was only one option left for the Castrol Honda WSBK team to choose Fabrizio Lai. The Italian rider has formerly raced in the World Superbike Championship and currently races in the CIV championship for the Echo
Honda team.
