Casual Trick will be looking to open up his sophomore season with a in the Gulfstream Park Derby
The 2-year-old son of Bernardini, out of mare Casual Look by Red Ransom, Casual Trick debuted his racing career in a maiden special weight race at Saratoga which was won by Fire on Ice, has come back to post an impressive winner in  his second start at Churchill
Downs.
The juvenile colt is now pointed toward the inaugural running of the $100,000 Gulfstream Park Derby over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on dirt at Gulfstream Park on 1 January, 2011, a race which is restricted for 3-year-olds.
Trained by Nick Zito for owner Robert V. LaPenta, Casual Trick will turn 3 next year, and will immediately kick off his sophomore season after just two races in his juvenile season. The other two entries so far for the Gulfstream Park Derby are Alpha and
Gold Megillah.
“I think I’m going to run him in the Gulfstream Derby,” trainer Nick Zito said. “He only broke his maiden in his last race, but I think it’s a good place to start.”
On 18 November, 2011, Casual Trick looked like a colt who has a bright future in front of him in stakes company at Churchill Downs and if she can grab a few good ones till May, then he could be a crucial contender for the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, but right
now it is a long shot and it’s too early to say anything about the colt’s future.
Casual Trick pressed the early pace in his maiden special weight race at Churchill Downs, and between horses he carried on with magnificent speed to down the runner up by two and a half lengths after opening up in the stretch.
On the other hand, the 2-year-old Kiaran McLaughlin trained, Alpha, is coming off an 11th place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile to winner Hansen.
He broke his maiden at first asking going over a distance of seven furlongs at Saratoga on 3 September, 2011, and then turned in a solid performance in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park, where he finished second to Union Rags on 8 October.
