My cat has been sneezing for the past couple of days and recently shes been wheezing a bit. She threw up a little bit earlier too and tonight she has been sneezing alot.. and kinda coughing and breathing hard. I cant take her to the vet right now and i have her medication from the last time i took her and she had a cold. Its albon liquid but i only have one dose left. What can i do to atleast make her feel a little better til i can take her to the vet? any suggestions on medication other than albon liquid or something I could get off the internet because im out of town for a couple of weeks.

  1. Unfortunately there is not much you can do at home.  You really need to get her to a vet asap.  A cat can die a slow agonizing death when it comes to any breathing issues.  Keep her calm and quiet in a cool place with fresh water and food as well as her litter pan near by - to help cut down on her having to walk around very far.

FYI:  Most Veterinary Emergency Hospitals can not deny you immediate treatment even if you have no $$.  They are required by law to stabilize your pet and work out a payment plan.   (this is in NJ, USA)   Please look into it - or perhaps the help of a rescue/shelter.

Prayers be with you,  I hope she gets well soon.

  2. Albon... hmmmmm ...contagious..call the vet and ask for a refill- these viruses/bacteria come and go alot in cats and they can pick it up just about anywhere- how old it the medication? Many times the vet won't want a contagious cat in their office and they will go ahead and give you a refill- if they tell you that the doc will want to see kitty.. you say "well, isn't she contagious right now because she's sneezing?" The doc must think that it is from one of three contagious viruses to give you this medication.  What it does is prevent further infection- it generally doesn't get rid the condition-  Now if this is the herpes virus in cats, (not the same as the human kind), you can help you cat by giving her an L-lysine supplement-  this is also availibe threw the vet but very expensive- I get the caps that come apart and put it in some water and give it threw a syring- 250 mg- this will surpress the symptoms ( eye dicharge-sneezing- ect...)  You can get this supplement anywhere. The thing about these viruses/bacterias is that they will always be there and so strengthening your cats immune system is really the best long term plan  - good luck
