Question:

Cat 67 days pregnant and counting, is it time?

She has been outrageously affectionate since last night. And this morning the room I have set up for her (with a baby pool for birthing in) she had ripped all the winter coats that's were under the bed out. First, is it time, will she be going today? And second, how do I get her to stay in the birthing area I set up. She is trying to go under a toddler bed. I don't want this to happen in case she has problems and because of the mess.

  1. its probably p**p, not babies.  let it come out on its own

take a joke and dont thumbs down

  2. HA! Cats never "birth" where you want them to, they like secluded, quiet places and most importantly a place where the owner is not ogling her every minute, so I suggest you get several boxes, fill them with rags and newspaper and place them under different beds, SHE and only SHE will pick the best place, unlike dogs cats are very private when it comes to this matters, they birth almost silently and you only notice it when you hear the tiny kitten meows, just provide her with good protein rich meals, enough water and leave her alone!

  3. The gestation period of a cat is 63-65 days.  The felines are very clean and can usually go through the birthing process alone.  On occasion a kitten may get stuck in the canal and the mother needs assistance.  But do relax.  Check with your vet if there are any complications.  Good Luck.

  4. get her out from under the bed and block off anyplaces where she can hide. So like board up the bed. Temporarily

  5. I dont know anythink about cats but

  6. I'll suggest what worked for us:  Get a big cardboard box, line it with carpet (beg a clean off cut from a carpet shop), cut most of the front out of the box so there is a step for the mother cat to get in and out, but kittens can't wriggle out, and use some old clean sheets to line the carpet for her to give birth on.

Don't use towels or anything really fluffy because the kittens will get their claws stuck and be unable to feed/might get crushed.

If you put the box in the corner of the room so that she can see the door, she might feel more secure.

Encourage her to go in the box (put some treats or food inside a couple of times) and she might get the idea.

Make sure the room is quiet and has no through traffic - cats are fiercely protective of their kittens and if they're not happy with their birthing place, they will move their kittens after the birth.

If it's too late to do some of the above, just remember to keep the area quiet, put her in the birthing bed with some treats and not to use towels.

Good luck, it sounds like she's nearly ready.

  7. let her have the kittens where she thinks is safe maybe worth putting something she likes in the baby bath so she will have them there otherwise she will become stressed and try moving them. You will know when she goes into labour as she will start making a lot of noise. You can normally tell by the way they act she'll become fidgety and be up and down every two seconds hope this helps i know it can be a nightmare at times

  8. It sounds like it within the next couple of days. You can't get her to give birth in a specific place, you can only encourage her. She'll only move them if she's not happy with it. Just shut the door to the bedrooms and anywhere else she definately can't give birth. She probably won't have them in a birthing pool because it's not comfortable and secure for her.

As long as you're close to your cat, being there for the birth or holding kittens won't be a problem. My cat gave birth in my bed, and then when I switched to the other bed in the bedroom, she moved them all under the covers with me while I was sleeping!

  9. Set up the birthing area in a closet or something so she can't get out. That's how my cat's mother's owner did it. She just had a bunch of towels laid out in the closet; everything went fine.

  10. First of all, that cat's going to give birth wherever the h**l she likes; they're just like that. But if you want to tempt her with something she might actually deign to give birth in, get a cardboard box, stick an old sweater of yours in the bottom and put some old towels on top of it to make a sort of nest, then put the box somewhere dark and quiet - under the stairs, or behind a curtain - cats like to feel safe, and they feel safe in small, dark places.

If she's trying to get under a bed, I reckon today's the day - good luck! Just get her the cardboard box; it'll minimise the mess and you can take the topmost towel out when she's finished. Plus if she's in a box, you can move her (and any kittens) more easily.

    Good luck!

  11. she wants a place no one can get to her duh... just let her go where ever if not block every place she wants to go.

  12. im not usre but get a cage around the birthing area

  13. I would respond like most of the posts on this question. I just want to say that there is apparently someone out there marking a thumbs down on all of the posts.

Don't you have anything better to do? If you think you have a better answer then post it.
